Plan Your Weekend to Energize Your Batteries

Ever find yourself exhausted at the end of the week and feeling like you just want to do nothing more than collapse in front of a TV set for the whole weekend?

That type of feeling might start about midweek with self-talk that goes something like “I can’t wait until Friday so I can veg out.” Because you’re picturing yourself being exhausted by week’s end and just too tired and disinterested to do anything, you’re setting yourself up for the inevitable. Well, it doesn’t have to be that way. Prove it to yourself by trying this experiment; it’s harmless!

Before you start letting your energy batteries run down, nip this kind of thinking in the bud. Make a point in the beginning of the week to select something that you would look forward to doing over the weekend. Thinking about fun family activities also works. Since we’re still dealing with COVID, you may need to be creative and flexible. Consider working on a puzzle, playing a board game, , reading something you’ve been itching to read, going camping with the family where you can go on a hike or bike ride, playing golf or other sport with a buddy, or trying out a new recipe. Having all family members become chefs for the evening to prepare an elaborate dinner is another fun option. The key is to start making the necessary plans or reservations ahead of time before energy depletion sets in.

Try this each week for a month! As one week progresses to the next, see if you don’t find yourself having more energy and being mentally psyched to do things when Friday night rolls around. What do you have to lose besides watching bad TV?
