Consider Doing Better Than a Simple “Thank You”

This past holiday season, you likely received a gift of some kind from a coworker, neighbor, or maybe even your boss. Whether it was a bottle of wine, a tin of cookies, a turkey, or some other treat, sending a thank you note or even calling and saying “thank you” is, of course, the polite thing to do. It’s expected and requires little time and energy.

But can you make your “thank you” more meaningful and, in turn, strengthen your relationship with the gift giver? That’s what Pro-Achievers think and do. It’s what adds to their personal success in life and at their workplace.

Pro-Achievement begins as a self-adopted commitment where you set your own standards to do things slightly above what’s expected. While putting in just a little more effort to add value takes some thinking, it can result in a lot of gain and, for sure, personal satisfaction. As it relates to receiving gifts, instead of just a “thank you” for an unexpected holiday gift, how about following up by letting the giver know how delicious the wine or cookies were. This going slightly above expectations will have impact and reflect sincerity. Let the giver know that the degree of your appreciation goes beyond the routine “thank you.”

Thinking like a Pro-Achiever doesn’t take much time. It’s just a matter of asking yourself, “What can I do that’s slightly better than what’s expected?” and then doing it.

It works at work. It works at home. It works with anyone anywhere. Learn more about how Pro-Achieving can help you by reading my book, THE PRO-ACHIEVEMENT PRINCIPLE on sale at Amazon and Kindle.
