Be A Pro-Achiever at Meetings…Contribute!
Meetings are great opportunities to show your stuff and STAND OUT. So stop thinking of meetings as something to tolerate. Instead, subscribe to a pro-achieving way of operating where you accept control to do what you can to add value to your next meeting. Here are some tried-and-true tips for helping to keep meetings more productive:
1. Consider reading the agenda or preliminary materials in advance as only a 1st step to getting involved. THINK and prepare an idea or two to present or offer for consideration. At the very least, formulate a few thought-provoking questions that will generate a good discussion.
2. A significant contribution that attendees would appreciate and that would definitely add value would be to tactfully ask, prior to or at the beginning of the meeting, what’s the meeting’s purpose and what are the attendees there to achieve?
3. Always be attentive and stay in the moment at all meetings. Avoid any temptation to check emails or allow distractions, especially if you are attending the meeting remotely.
